Rate for Experienced Plant Mechanics: $18.00 to $30.00/ hour based on years of experience

SUMMARY:

The Plant Production Mechanic is responsible for preventive and reactive maintenance to ensure all site equipment is operating and safe, to meet production objectives. Responsibilities include maintenance of automated machinery (automobile shredder), including light equipment, heavy duty/construction equipment, conveyor systems as well as general facility maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education and/ or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), five or more years related experience, and/or training, or equivalent combination or education and experience required. Minimum 2-3 years experience with tools, maintenance of conveyor equipment, required. Knowledge of industrial safety (OSHA and EPA regulations.) Previous recycling or metals experience a plus.
• Language and Communication Skills: Ability to read, write and interpret in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Valid Driver’s License required.
• Physical Demands: “Moderate” up to 50lbs of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Standing or walking required often. Stooping and bending required frequently. Must be able to see, listen and respond to dangerous situations.
• Work Environment: Usually working outdoors with occasional work indoors or working in various weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts repairs and preventive maintenance service; maintains production and quality by ensuring reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment; provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment during production, and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment and plant facility.
• Repair and maintain plant machinery including air compressors, vibratory sorting equipment, magnetic sorting equipment, etc. Repair and maintain conveyors including electric motors, bearings, rollers, gearboxes, frame work, etc. Repair and maintain of general plant infrastructure including platforms, stairwells, lighting and heating, and plumbing.
• Assist with aspects of welding and general mechanics.
• Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Complies with OSHA safety and health rules.
• Equipment to include: Auto Shredder including Non-Ferrous Shredder Downstream, Baler..
• Prepares and performs mechanic duties including, but not limited to, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting, and repair of production machines.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Perform daily preventive maintenance checks.
• Assist in the regular cleanup of the maintenance area.
• Wear proper safety equipment.
• Must provide basic hand tools.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated manager.
