ConservIt, Inc., the Tri-State’s leader in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal recycling is seeking an Accounting Assistant at it’s Hagerstown, MD location. With over 100 employees/owners throughout it’s three locations, ConservIt is 100% employee owned. 

Accounting Assistant– Office      **Safety Sensitive Position**

Reports to: Accountant

Exempt/ Non-Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Supervisory Responsibility: None

SUMMARY:

The accounting assistant will keep financial records, prepare reports, and update financial information. The entry level finance professional must be familiar with accounting procedures and should have experience with accounting software programs. The ideal candidate will be able to process business transactions, handle accounts payable and receivable, receipts, and other financial matters.

  • Education and/ or Experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field required and one to three years related experience, and/or training, or equivalent combination. Computer experience required. Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Language and Communication Skills: Ability to read, write and interpret in English such as safety rules, accounting and finance procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Acrobat required. Sage 100 accounting experience a plus.
  • Physical Demands: “Light”: Must be able to Exerting up to 20lbs of force occasionally, or up to 10lbs of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires eight or more hours of sitting, standing or walking in an eight hour day. Stooping and bending required occasionally. Must be able to see, listen and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Work Environment: Usually working indoors. Occasional walking through the yard/worksite in PPE and safety boots.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use 10-key by touch with accuracy for data entry.
  • Handle high volumes of daily information with precision and attention to detail
  • Run reports, record financial transactions, maintain financial records, and assist accountant with various other administrative tasks.
  • Read and understand P & L, financial statements, and AR/AP processes to assist accountant.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite; Sage and Inventory software to enter financial data and run reports.
  • Check for accuracy in reports, figures and posting. Reconcile and report any discrepancies in financial data.
  • Manage buyer approvals for all received vendor invoices.
  • Assist with posting customer checks, vendor payments and accounts payables; back up assistance with purchase orders.
  • Reconcile account balance and process billing adjustments.
  • Fact check invoices for payment and processing; communicate with appropriate leadership, staff, or customer when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated manager.
